There are two primary types of breast implants: saline implants and silicone implants. Saline implants are so called because they are filled with a saline solution, while silicone implants are filled with a silicone gel. Breast implants also come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and textures, and may be placed either above or below the muscle through typically one of three incision sites. The most commonly used incision placements are around the areola, in the crease under the breast, or in the armpit. Personal preference, lifestyle, and your plastic surgeon’s recommendation can all play a part in determining the best procedure plan for you. As always, the most important decision you will make is the first one: choosing the right plastic surgeon.
